Harry Scheman - Vice President
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in Bronx, New York, Harry enlisted in the US Army at the age of 19 becoming a member of the 82nd Airborne Division in 1973 where he served honorably for 20 years retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He earned various awards including the Legion of Merit Medal for his outstanding military service. Harry earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice and Business Management from Central Texas College.
At age 41, Harry joined the Pert Amboy Police Department in 1996. Making history as the oldest rookie in the department. He honorably served the department in various roles as Field Training Officer, Accident Investigator and Motorcycle Officer until his retirement in 2016.
Harry again history in 2021 by becoming the first Latino to be sworn in as American Legion Post 45 at Post Commander in Perth Amboy, NJ.
Harry recognizes the importance of a strong and committed community police partnership and has been a key leader in collaborating with retail businesses in securing funds and donations of clothing, furniture, and basic health products to improve the quality of life for Perth Amboy residents. He is a true supporter and advocate for veteran’s rights.
